Benefits
Quality window film works every time the sun is out, from summer traffic on the Baltimore Beltway to winter glare at sunset.
Ceramic film rejects infrared heat at the glass, so seats and steering wheels stay cooler and the air conditioning works less.
Window film can block up to 99.9 percent of UV radiation, according to The Skin Cancer Foundation, which protects your skin on long drives.
Tint softens bright sun and low evening light, which makes driving more comfortable for your eyes.
Darker rear glass keeps bags, tools and car seats out of sight.
Blocking UV slows fading and cracking of leather, dashboards and trim.
Vehicles We Tint
The film, the shade and the coverage depend on what you drive. Here is how our car tint service works for the three vehicle groups Maryland law treats differently.
Every side window and the rear window must be 35 percent or lighter. Ceramic tint at 35 percent gives the most heat control at the darkest legal shade.
The front door windows must be 35 percent or lighter, and the windows behind the driver can be any shade. Many owners match the front doors to the factory privacy glass.
Nonmetallic ceramic film keeps phone, GPS and key fob signals clear on a Tesla or any other electric vehicle. We also tint work vans and trucks, from one vehicle to a full fleet.
Tint Shades
VLT, or visible light transmission, is the share of visible light that passes through the window. The lower the number, the darker the tint.
| Shade | How it looks | Legal in Maryland on |
|---|---|---|
| 70 percent | Nearly clear | Every window |
| 50 percent | Light tint | Every window |
| 35 percent | Medium tint | Every window |
| 20 percent | Dark tint | Windows behind the driver on SUVs, vans and light trucks only |
| 5 percent | Limo tint | Windows behind the driver on SUVs, vans and light trucks only |
The legal limit applies to the whole window, not just the film. Factory glass already blocks some light, so a 35 percent film on a car can measure a little below 35 percent once installed. We check this before we recommend a shade.
Maryland Law
Maryland requires aftermarket tint to let at least 35 percent of light through the window, and the rules change with the type of vehicle. The details below follow Maryland State Police guidance.
Every side window and the rear window must be 35 percent or lighter.
On multipurpose vehicles, vans and trucks with a gross vehicle weight rating of 10,000 pounds or less, only the driver and front passenger windows must be 35 percent or lighter. Windows behind the driver can be any darkness.
Tint on the windshield is allowed only above the AS1 line or within the top 5 inches, whichever is less. Red, yellow, amber, sparkle and reflective tints are not allowed on any vehicle.
A vehicle owner who must be protected from the sun for medical reasons can use darker tint with a written certification from a licensed physician, in the format the Maryland State Police Automotive Safety Enforcement Division requires, kept in the vehicle. Since October 1, 2025, a certification for a permanent condition stays valid indefinitely.
If an officer finds tint that breaks these rules, the driver can be given a safety equipment repair order to remove it.

For most daily drivers, yes. Ceramic tint rejects more heat than carbon film at the same shade, keeps its color and does not interfere with electronics.
On an SUV, van or light truck, the front door windows must be 35 percent or lighter. The windows behind the driver and the rear glass can be any darkness.
Yes. Our nonmetallic films do not interfere with the antennas and sensors these vehicles rely on. One of our Google reviewers had his 2022 Tesla Model 3 tinted with us.
Lighter shades keep night vision clearest, and Maryland already limits front side windows to 35 percent. Ceramic film gives strong heat control without needing a very dark shade.
Most vehicles take two to four hours. Keep the windows up for three to five days so the film can cure.
